Copenhagen Major Pick’em Challenge - Format & Predictions

The first ever major in CS2 is right around the corner and the pick 'em challenge is also live for the event however, with a few changes. In this blog we will go through those changes and some suggestions on what teams to pick for the opening stage.

The format for the pick’em has changed from the previous iterations of the challenge. Instead of picking a team that will go 3-0 and 0-3 and the rest of the teams being who will qualify; now it asks you to select the 2 teams that will go 3-0 and 0-3 and the other teams that will end up qualifying as either 3-1 or 3-2 score.

The pick’em challenge in previous majors.

This leaves less room for error as usually you will pick the guaranteed teams in the qualifying spots and leave a team that may perform well as your 3-0 pick since the BO1 format may lead to a strong team losing a match but still end up qualifying fairly easily. Also, keeping a strong team in the qualifying spot instead of 3-0 also meant you will still get a point if they still went 3-0 however, now this will not count if a team that you picked 3-1/3-2 actually ends up qualifying 3-0.

Copenhagen Major - Opening Stage Predictions

For the opening stage of the Copenhagen Major, this could be a pretty hard pick’em challenge as most teams are on an equal level and whichever team shows up on a particular day could win. Some of the teams actually had a strong performance at the RMR to qualify for the major but leading up to the actual event had some shaky results in other small online tournaments.

I will share my own predictions and some alternative picks as well below:

You can find the Elimination Stage pickems here.

My predictions for the opening stage.

Most players are predicting Cloud9 and/or ENCE to go 3-0, I have moved Cloud9 to the other qualifying bracket as C9 are usually a hit or miss team and they may not show up against a team or fall short due to not having a dedicated AWPer in the team. There is also a chance that ENCE and Cloud9 can face off against each other in the 2-0 matchup to actually qualify for the next stage with a 3-0 score.
The most obvious 0-3 picks are Lynn Vision and The Mongolz as they are the weakest teams however, I am still not sure on these picks. I do believe that both teams can easily sneak a win. I still stuck with them as my other picks could win a game and surprise the other teams.

Opening Stage Pick’em Picks:

Post thoughts: I realized how wrong I was with my pick’ems right after the first day, it really didn’t go as expected and my hopes for a diamond coin have faded already. Hoping to bounce back with the Elimination Stage picks.
